Canadian gold companies bullish
TORONTO 3/05/07. High spot gold prices and strong demand have left
Canadian gold companies bullish. Barrick Gold Corp. increased annual
shareholder dividends by 36 per cent yesterday and Kinross Gold Corp.
says it plans to boost production by 60 per cent by 2009.
Barrick, which reported a first-quarter loss of 18 cents a share Tuesday,
took a one-time charge of $557 million to exit an unprofitable hedge
position. Shareholders at the Kinross annual general meeting yesterday
heard the company's recent $2.8-billion all-stock deal for Bema Gold
Corp. is powering up its cash flow.
